Instructions for drilling the Micro-Gravity
frames.
Edge the lenses to the desired size and shape.
Cut the plastic template in half to separate the right and left
lens templates.
Mark the 180 degree line on the lenses, and mark the lenses right
and left.
Peel the right template from the backing.
Lay the clear plastic template on top of the front surface of the
lens. Make sure the
180 degree line of the lens is lined up with the axis
line on the clear plastic template.
In addition, make sure
the outline of the lens on the template is matched up with the
edges of the lens.
Where indicated, use the 2.3mm drill bit and drill the drill holes
temporally and nasally.
Make sure to drill the lens perpendicular to the front lens
surface.
Using the 1.5mm drill bit, drill the notch holes.
Repeat for the left lens.
Chamfer the front and backside of the drill holes to reduce the
possibility of lens crazing
and cracking.
Using a small rat tail file, chamfer the front and backside of the
notch holes.
Using your hands, insert the mounting into the lens. Make sure the
notch hole and the
drill hole are lined up properly with the pin and screw retainer
on the mounting. The fit should be snug, but not tight.
Insert the screw size that most closely matches the lens edge thickness,
with a ring washer to attach the lens. If the screw
is slightly too long for the lens use additional washers
between the screw head and the back lens surface to take up the
slack.
Another option is to cut and file the screw to shorten the
screw.
HINT: Putting loctite or clear nail polish on the screw threads
before attaching
the lens will help prevent the screws from backing
out.
Adjusting the frame and the temple
length.
To adjust the temple length, put the frame on the customer and note
the point where
the temple meets the top of the ear.
Remove the temple tip, (pull and rotate the tip to remove it), and
cut the temple 5mm
past that point.
Reattach the temple tip the temple, and using gentle heat from a
hot air blower, shape
the tip to the curvature of the back of the ear. For a permanent
attachment, a drop of adhesive may be used to attach
the tip to the temple.
To adjust the frame, use gentle heat from a hot air blower to soften
the part that needs adjustment. Adjust and let cool.
