Marchon, the industry's largest privately owned eyewear company, based in Melville, N.Y., will distribute Nike Eyewear primarily to the optical channel and select sun and sport retailers in major international markets. Nike, the sporting goods giant based here,
will continue to service a certain number of its key accounts with Nike Eyewear. Under the new partnership, Nike and Marchon will develop new products in ophthalmic and sports eyewear categories.

Marchon will also bring its patented Flexon® memory metal frame technology into the development for use in both sunglasses and ophthalmic frames. Marchon will begin selling and distributing certain Nike Eyewear styles in spring 2000. Al Berg, co-president and CEO of Marchon, noted that the new optical range would be likely later in the year. He added, "We can't imagine having a better partner to participate with in the sport sunglass industry." Nike introduced its first line of sport sunglasses in 1996, adding Nike Max Lenses this year.
